Still on Firefox 28? Check out Pale Moon.
I'm sorry if it looks like I am advertising (I am), but I wanted to present this option to people who have grown sick of working around Australis in fx29 and up.
More information about it can be obtained from palemoon.org. But generally, it's a Firefox build that's leaner in places, and fatter in others, culling older hardware support, accessibility features and parental controls in lieu for baked-in interface enhancements (like Status-4-Evar), and optimizations that are supposedly better for newer computers.
But better yet, no Australis. ever. And you can continue using and developing styles for older builds of Firefox. Make sure you let people know about this alternative. It's as pretty as its bigger brother, and I believe it runs a little better, too.
Edit: While some "Classic" interface extensions like NoUn Buttons and Classic Toolbar Buttons work (to varying degrees), it is highly advisable you revert to the default theme, disabling extensions like Classic Theme Restorer, blacklisted plugins like Status-4-Evar (check about:support for plugin IDs and compare with blocklist.xml for blacklisted addons because their functionality exists as a core browser component). If you have any "Anti-Australis" user styles, it is advised you disable those as well before switching over to Pale Moon.
You should (ideally) delete blocklist.xml and if you used Classic Theme Restorer, localstore.rdf before making the switch. make a new profile in Pale Moon, then move your profile files over from mozilla\firefox\profiles\xxxxxxxx.yyyyyyy to moonchild productions\pale moon\profiles\xxxxxxxx.Default.
For a more comprehensive checklist of things to do, this exists on the Pale Moon forum.

I hate australis, but not enough to migrate everything over (manually, because - again - their tool is windows-only) and reconfigure/restyle everything :\
They seem to have the right idea at the core, though.
Another approach would be to copy over the profile configuration file and changing IsRelative to 0, and changing profile path(s) to full paths Firefox / Pale Moon would recognize.
But yeah, I can see where you would think it's half-baked, since it comes with a fair degree of extra functionality that's not in Firefox natively. I just like it because it lacks Australus, and it's built from the ESR branch (which at the moment I guess is 24.5, since Pale Moon's versioning is on par with ESR).

having to use classictthemerestorer and another addonbar extension to bring back the addon bar.
its a joke
and looks like crap, especially the stupid oversized icons in google chrome garbage menu imitation.
I want to make it perfectly clear; Pale Moon is Firefox 24.5 with addons as part of its core functionality, optimized as best the author can make it as an alternative to the stable branch of Firefox, with occasional updates for security changes. I care so deeply about the freedom of making my browser look how I want it, and that's why my vote goes for Pale Moon.
I will admit it; I am dumb. But I wasn't born last night, I know the OP was a bit heaped with garbage fluff. But if people really want to know what's done to the browser, palemoon.org's information section gives you almost everything, and the forum gives you a bit more.
No [Ext] CTR required. It took me all of a week to do so (at minimal intervals - heck, I still have to work) as I noticed a few variances here and there.
My Fx, on Fx 29.0.1:
Even at that, I have noticed the latest Nightly requires a few extra tweaks. Easy stuff and I'll go back to it once they get the Flash issues sorted. :)
Copy chromes stupid fking menu icon, dump it on the right side of the browser (total disregard to vast majority users who are so used to application menus being on the topleft side) and make extra large fking icons out of the same stupid fking buttons.
That copycat chromified menubar is just so fking bad its a joke and an insult to anyone who doesn't need mega large fking icons to move about. The fact it exists and has replaced what was a perfectly fine menu system with small icons is a joke. Just another sign of the touchscreen tards have been screwing around, lets take our leading desktop browser and dumb it down like our shitty android browser.
And tabs on top of the addressbar is now forced with no gui option to switch it back to how it should be. So fking dumb really
Mozilla you are losing the plot like Maxthon did years before.
Way to go morons. These retarded asshats live in a world of there own down at shiticon valley.
Change, simply for change's sake is bad but change for the better is good.
I think this change (to Australis) is for the better.
Learn to adapt or be left behind.
In the world of computing, that should be a rule written somewhere ... seriously.
I mean, there are still a lot of people out there running XP and won't be taken away from it without some screaming and protestations - even vehemently so (as noted above with the Australis kicking and screaming).
I only suggest switching to Pale Moon because it's easier to tell someone to do that than tell people "Uncode what Mozilla did". Not everybody wants to spend a week to figure all that stuff out. Some people have other work to care about, and fixing their web browser shouldn't be a task any of us have to do in the first place. To be clear, yeah I keep pushing Pale Moon but that's because the browser is working how I had it since Firefox 3, with -- get this -- no coding whatsoever. I know it speaks volumes of me as a userstyles.org contributor to say that and explain it that way, but I'm looking out for everyone, even those who can't code worth a turd.
I think this change (to Australis) is for the better."
its pile of sshit, its crippled crap and poor copy of chrome (if I wanted a shitty menu like that I'd just use chrome it at least doesn't look like crap) laughable how you say change for sake of change is bad, but then think shitfox29 is actually a good change lol..its awful on so many levels.
I did say at one point "Might as well call it Australius" somewhere, in reference to Australia being considered "Down under" and "The other side of the world", especially for me as a US citizen.
Really, what is all the fuss about? I understand many hate change ... I'm sure glad y'all weren't around during the civil rights movement ...
But no seriously, you're missing the point that not everybody is remotely capable of using Stylish and you're telling people learn to code. It's an insult to some people that you expect them to just know, even after ten years of using a computer.
I deal with computer-illiterate people all the time, and people who are only semi-literate. You can't expect everyone to know this kind of stuff. What's basic for you and I is advanced++ for somebody else.
Seriously, I'm glad that you found a browser that you like, but for almost everyone else this is a tempest in a teapot. Yeah, me too. [kkkk...] Yes, and even they are writing style sheets. I wouldn't worry unduly about other people's skills - they ask for help when they need it. Listen - hear the crickets? The people you're protecting really don't care - it's almost solely the true believers and fan bois who are distressed by the changes. (And who would really rather use FF3?) He didn't - he tinkered with it for a week while watching Downton Abbey - er, I mean Fullmetal Alchemist - and eating cupcakes. Mmm, so which picture is which? They look very much the same to me. Makondo? Is that you?
