Version 1.7.0 is live

Version 1.7.0 is live and is currently released to 10% of the users. We’ll gradually increase to 100% in the coming days. Remember that if you choose to manually install it, you’ll lose your installed style (shouldn’t be a problem anymore from version 1.7.0 and on).

The version includes:
- Backup and Retrieve of installed styles - you’ll now be able to backup and retrieve your previously installed styles. This is a request that came from the community and we were happy to be able to include it in this version.
- Install through extension is enabled
- Sending feedback through the extension is enabled
- Bug fix - Installed Styles tab now supports local styles
- Translations added - we’ve added translations for strings of the new features and would really appreciate feedback on this to make sure the translations were done well.

What’s coming up?
Visit our Trello board to see future features and to vote on them.

After receiving complaints on bullying in the forum, we realized that guidelines should be updated and posted, and a clear channel of communication should be opened for any related complaints. We’ll have more on this sometime next week.

The beta group is starting to form nicely and we already have a group of volunteers that will help us release better features. There are still some spots open, so if you’re interested to sign up, email me at contact@userstyles.org with ‘Beta Group’ in the subject line.

As always, we’re happy to hear your feedback.

Is it going to be put on GitHub? Currently the latest commit is 1.6.3: https://github.com/stylish-userstyles/stylish-chrome/commits/develop. It'd be great if it was kept up to date, since contributions go through it.
  • I still have 1.5.2 :D
  • Hi and thanks for maintaining Stylish :)

What's with the addition of "*://*/*" to the extension permissions?

No clues on the github about this.
  • Hi,

Now, I couldn't install Stylish from the store.
    Chrome says in Japanese:

    パッケージが無効です。詳細: Name of a key "設定noserverconnectionparam2" is invalid. Only ASCII [a-z], [A-Z], [0-9] and "_" are allowed.

  • I like the backup feature seems to work great for me :)

Yeah, it definitely is. I just didn't have a chance to do it yet. Will do it sometime this week. I'm sorry it got delayed. Usually I upload it to Github at the same time of the release.

I'll check it and get back to you soon. Thanks for reporting this!

No clues on the github about this.

Nothing changed in terms of permissions from version 1.6.3. I'll upload it to github soon and if you see anything you don't recognize, let me know.

No clues on the github about this.

first star would be protocol: http, https, ftp, udp, you name it.
second star is domain, like, wikipedia, google, youtube,
third star would be any page within that domain.

Which basically means, spyware. "We want all your browsing history" - that's what they said (not with those words, but that's what they meant).
So you should go and uncheck the 'opt-in' option. I don't know if this will actually disable it, and what features will stop working after that though... Someone needs to check that.
  • I'm getting this "requires new permissions" message. Looks a bit creepy. Can you explain why you need these new permissions?

Getting the same thing. What's up with this?

  • These are exactly the same permissions as it always had, even when it was in Jason's hands. Not sure why Chrome is popping this message.

    Nope, it wasn't.

Sorry, my bad. This was for the backup styles feature. I did feature a while back, so forgot about it. You have to have a download permission in order to allow this feature.

With Opera, and using the Download Chrome Extension:
    https://addons.opera.com/en-gb/extensions/details/download-chrome-extension-9/

Stylish is still 1.6.1 and has been for ages for me. It just does not update.

How can I get the new version Justin plus safely retain all my 100+ styles in custom created ones.

  • Version 1.7.1 - Bug fixes; Removed backup feature and Downloads permission;

Why did you remove the backup feature :/ bring it back please...

If that was the case, why doesn't tampermonkey require that permission... And it has backup feature.
  • I'm using Stylish with Vivaldi, and it upgraded itself to 1.7.0 today (I think I had 1.5.3 before). It's quite a bit slower to apply the style since the upgrade, and I liked the old checkboxed list to select styles much better than the new previews - is there any way to get them back?

Previously I'd click the checkbox, and the style would be applied immediately, now the list has to slowly fade-in first, then after clicking Activate [at least I can do that without waiting for the button to fade-in completely], it takes about 3 seconds before anything happens.

I think this is a problem with only Vivaldi, as I'm using chrome/centbrowser and as soon as I click activate on a theme it enables it immediately, same thing with de-activating a theme.

I hadn't even got to 1.7.0 to see the new backup options and now its gone in 1.7.1.

The backup and restore is a good logical next step to take for people with lots of styles installed. I did not know asking for a backup feature and recover would require more permissions. Are all the permissions really needed to achieve this.

If you could find a better way without it, then this would put more minds to rest.

  • Yeah still on 1.6.1, not updated: Chrome.
The Update extensions button in extensions doesn't seem to do anything.
    This is getting ridiculous.
Are you sure the update has been rolled out to all users? Else you may want to contact the Chrome Web Store.

    This is all I see.

It deactivates immediately, it just takes a long time to activate.

Anyway, is there some way to disable previews and have just a simple list of styles? IMHO they're both a waste of space, and the fading is annoying (I really dislike any kind of UI fade-in, since it just slows down interaction).

The privacy policy text, not good at all. Is there no better way.
  • edited January 2017 Chrome
Chrome has updated the extension, this is good, but it's only now displaying a maximum of 5 installed styles? Why is that?
Many websites I have different styles that perform specific functions, like on YouTube I have 2 styles that are off normally, but when a video is in an incorrect aspect ratio, I turn one of the styles on (4:3 or 16:9) and it adjusts the video.
These particular styles are invisible in the popup, the only way to enable them is to Manage styles, hunt through etc.
Why couldn't the same functionality be preserved? The popup should list all the installed styles pertaining the site, regardless of activation. Otherwise, what's the point? And yes I did try manually activating the styles in manager, but this did not list them in the popup.

"Find more styles for this site" STILL only referencing Google.com #-o
  • I was on a old version so I didn't worry about the changes, but now that it has auto updated I can see how horrendous it is, wtf is with the gigantic long white space, with all that shitty space you could have put the 'edit/activate/delete' buttons at the bottom where the 'weekly installs' are shown, because end users will always want to know what the weekly installs are right?! no you flying pancake! hovering for those important options is tedious to do.
  • I fixed my problems (slow to apply styles, huge waste of screen space in popup, annoying fade-ins) by going back to 1.5.2 and disabling updates.

The new version was released only to 10% of the users, as I wrote in the announcement.
Since we identified some minor bugs, we're still waiting with releasing it to 100% of the users, but it should happen by the end of this week.
I went over the bugs you've reported and tried to reproduce them with no success. Can you maybe send us more details to contact@userstyles.org so we can try and find out what the issue is? Screenshots are always welcome, included steps to reproduce. Thanks!
