Integrated style editor doesn't recognize CSS variables (Chrome)

As stated in the title, the editor doesn't recognize the definition or use of CSS variables; --variable-name-here results in an invalid token highlight on the first dash, and var(variable-name-here generally results in "expected [whatever]" warnings. As you can imagine, this makes development of styles using variables kind of annoying.
