Storing user style settings - JS/HTML5?

edited August 2017 in Chrome
If I am correct, in the old version of the site, JS was used to store user settings for a style in a cookie. This was useful when a user returned, since it loaded their preferred settings.

Now, with the new site, a page reload with assign the default settings for a style. So, big question is whether there are any plans to change this, use JS again or use HTML5? I've had users complaining, because my style allows so much customization, that without storage, they are in danger of losing their settings when they update.

HTML5 would be quite easy to implement using local storage:

localStorage.setItem('someName', 'savedData');
var data = localStorage.getItem('someName');
