...switching over to the stylus fork...

It's nice to hear that there's an effort at a fork, but this one in particular has me a bit leery to use it.

For starters, the icon looks like it's ripping off adobe audition but uglier and made in paint. Also, this guy who apparently has full commit privileges looks like he's just started using git for the first time and is setting a bad precedent for the future of the fork's codebase.

I'll be sticking to an older version of stylish for the time being.

    SHOTS FIRED!

@matthardin "This moron" is me. Be leery all you want. I am terrifying. Figured since you only just became a member of this forum in order to sing my praises, it's only right that I be the one to welcome you.

I am also responsible for the terrible icons, which were made in GIMP, not Paint. Another one of those issues that would have delayed release for who knows how long, so I made some with my undeniable graphic design skills. You don't have to say it "looks like he's just started using git" either. You can look at my Github profile and say it definitively.

I'm not so arrogant that I don't recognize that I am woefully underqualified to maintain the project, so I got a much more capable dev to be the brains of the operation. I've also recruited other capable contributors.

As for my "full commit privileges", you can equate that to letting a toddler sit on your lap, grab the steering wheel, and pretend like he's driving. I have plenty of supervision to prevent me from swerving into oncoming traffic. I have contributed a couple cool things and certainly expedited others. Mostly I'm the hype-man.

Truthfully, I could care less which extension you choose to use. Not sure that you're not a "one and done" type of sh*tposter here. You're probably far too busy with your next big Git-snob circle-jerk. If you prefer to use an older version with less features and zero support, knock yourself out.

Fact is, the fork never would've gotten going if I hadn't encouraged it, and probably still wouldn't be released had I not kept shaking my pom-poms. I mostly make simple commits in the interest keeping things moving. They may be done awkwardly, but they're all tested and then tested again.

It's a lot easier to call someone else out for being inexperienced with Github than it is to make any kind of useful contribution towards providing others with a solid alternative. You are setting a bad precedent for other opinionated do-nothings.

Btw, someone else just complained about my magnificent icons, so I'll reopen the issue and see if anyone can outdo my masterful work-of art.
  • You might have drawn him in to help had you been more understanding or even invited him to make you a new icon or something like that. He was not that harsh. Taking your comments into consideration it seemed like honest observations.
  • Not trying to "draw him in", or you either. You keep right on kissing up to the new Stylish devs.
  • Excuse me for a dumb question.
How can I unsubscribe from email notifications on this thread? It doesn't have the "gauge" icon in my "Participated" list. :-|
  • lol your going places kid.Nice talking to you.

When you click participated there is a little gear that pops up on the right when you hover that you can dismiss it. Maybe that will help?
  • Should have been more clear. Way right over by the star. Options

Oops... I mean "gear" not "gauge". ((
Unfortunately there is no such pop icon on about half of my Participated topics. Seems like a forum engine flaw. :-\
  • lol your going places kid.Nice talking to you.

    *you're

Don't blame me. I've avoided you since you first showed up shilling for the new Stylish. You decided to interject yourself into something that has nothing to do with you.
  • I "wouldn't" get me started if i were you. You might find it hard to avoid me from now on. Lets start with the fact you have your own "solid" fork So what are you doing here in these forums? You do not Know me. You do not have to crap all over every one in the thread. You take someone else's extension slap it online and when you get what normal people would take as constructive criticism start calling it shots fired. You should check yourself and I will remind you that beyond some arbitrary rules of the forum there are norms of behavior, and not too much your typing falls within that. Ease up in the peddle its only software and chat. I have been doing this a long time. Probably since before you were born, and you might find one day you regret wasting time hating when you could have been making friends. Maybe you take a few minutes to think about that before you slap out your next insult with that keyboard. But there is money on the bet you wont.
  • You whippersnappers GET OFF MY LAWN!

    Did I lose the bet?
  • lol got ya a dollar
  • We'll call it even then.
  • We'll call it even then.

Good deal thank you. (Shilling for peace)

Well, that was fun, thanks, guys!
(You both wrong, of course image )

    We'll call it even then.

    You are (even):

Then a hint as well: 'I could care less' ... English isn't my native language but i'm pretty sure the correct expression is 'I couldn't care less' unless, of course, you mean you could. Then maybe you should image

@anagrammar, it's nice to know there is another fork apart from osprey, which continues the good work of Jason.
But I'm hesitant to install any of them, as I have no idea what's been done under the hood.
As for the icon, I think I can whip something out. Can you please link me to that thread, and I'll do something this weekend, if I get the time..
  • @q1k The link is https://github.com/schomery/stylish-chrome/issues/7
Check out the git repo if you want to know whats under the hood, that is what git is for lol.

As for @"Dana MW Chester". You are new here. not a mod

Those who have been here a while can see whats happened with the addon, an analytics Co. bought it, added tracking thats OPT-OUT, not OPT-IN, that when disabled looses functionality.

I "wouldn't" get me started if i were you. You might find it hard to avoid me from now on.

    That's not nice.

You should check yourself ... I have been doing this a long time. Probably since before you were born...

Cough Cough Look in the mirror Cough
  • Relax now roosters. I am not here moderating anyone, I am here making friends. Look, some people even came out to say hi. lol I think he knows what I meant and i believe we are cool. You can put those pistols back in your holsters. He seems to have a sense of humor so we will get along just fine. (at least as fine as you can for chat)
    anyway...
As for the extension on the chrome side (so far), well, pretty easy to say it needs work. And on that note I thought it would be easier to help fix it than to come in here bitching. I have used the extension longer than I have been registered here, but when the changes started coming i figured there might be a chance of saving it if I offered polite suggestions. In the meantime if I didn't like something well I would just code it out.
If this is some sort of good ole boys club well I will just get on my bike and go home. If not ... then what good does it do to hate on people joining in on the conversation. THAT was my point. Also I am the kind of guy that if I did change things to suit myself I would not find a need to slap the new author around with that fact. Cant get anywhere like that. I felt bad for the (other possible) new guy because he pointed out things that could be, say maybe changed, to make it more attractive. Since people are a bit uptight about all this I thought he might see the value in winding it back a bit. That's all.
So please don't go getting all "this is my yard" on me I did not mean anything bad to anyone with what I said. Truth is I use Firefox more and damn sure wanted to steer this project before Firefox is done messing that all up and that extension changed. That is where I am coming from, I meant no harm. With that said it is always a good thing to me to see where people heads are at ya know?

And @hippyjake I avoid the mirror. To depressing at this age. Nice meeting you. And I will stfu now.
  • That blog-lengthed psychotic rant only serves to prove my original point. Dana is correct; attracting new contributors will be difficult given the attitude of the poster child.
  • oh that helped lol
  • That blog-lengthed psychotic rant only serves to prove my original point.

    Rant? Debatable. Psychotic? Not yet.

Look, if you felt the need to express your opinion on the pixelated icons or my lack of experience navigating Github, that would be fine. Both are fair points. What I take exception to, is the insinuation that figuring out Github as I use most of its features for the first time is somehow "setting a bad precedent for the future of the fork's codebase". Some real elitist nonsense there.

First of all, you won't find my name on the repo or the extension. This is 100% by my own design. I wouldn't have put myself in charge, and I wouldn't have wasted my time and effort at all, had I not gotten a far more capable and experienced dev I'm friendly with to agree to take on the project. Not bothering to contribute what what I'm capable of and learn how to do things would be a real dick move.

attracting new contributors will be difficult given the attitude of the poster child.

Not so much. Unlike you, I didn't join this forum yesterday. I've been around here for years, in which time, I doubt you'll find many other active members with a track-record of helping more users than me. I have no credibility issues here.

In fact, if @q1k found out about the project because of your post here, and comes though with some icons, I'll count you as a contributor.

People like you seem to hold Github up on some sort of pedestal, and talk about it like it's some kind of popularity contest, as if I should be on an ass-kissing campaign winning hearts and minds. I simply don't subscribe to that philosophy. Icons aside, our version is already better than any alternative and there's more improvements on the way soon. For users who are smart enough to figure that out, it should speak for itself.

Btw, while I am responding to you, these "rants" aren't really intended for you. I don't care about you personally at all. My only objective here is to clear up any FUD that may result from your original flippant remark.
  • When I go to the site I installed my stylish code on, I have to reactivate it to work with every single page change. Why's that? It was fine yesterday.
  • Blah blah blah

You're exhalating your force by your mouth/fingers.

It's GitHub... if you feel you can do it better contribute... or fork it... really

How was that? Talk is cheap, show me the code.
  • Today I accidentally discovered the changes in stylish.
At first glance I think it is more beautiful and cool ! (The icon is a bit uncomfortable) =((
but there're some troubles: Although temporarily it does not affect the use,but the function button completely ineffective.

As you can see, the stylish is still working, but there are nothing displaying in the style list. Furthermore, Disabling and enabling the style does not work, and the new fuction "Backup" is also disabled.

    My computer is using Chrome/31.0.1650.63
    1247 x 649 - 476K
  • If you have a style installed you get a button with "Find more styles for this site", but if you don't have any styles installed for a site, but you want some, there is no button to go to userstyles.org.
  • the [Stylus] icon looks like it's ripping off adobe audition but uglier and made in paint

Random stranger's irrelevant and personal subjective opinion that was not asked for here:
    1) "ugly": I like the cyan/aqua Stylus icon [1] very much, if that matters.
    2) "ripoff"": I haven't heard about Audition and looking at its icon I see a bit similar colour, yes. (You know, percievable colour space is really limited, so chances are any given colour was already used somewhere, likely in some sort of symbol as well.)
    3) "made in Paint": you mean, like, "used tool denotes final quality of the product"? Seriously?

BTW, what about moving main discussions about forks away from "Official" thread?

It did get a bit sidetracked. We're probably due for a new "Official" thread, seeing as the current version is 1.7.4.

Teach me how to code Granddad.

Also @matthardin it's better than any of the rubbish that's happening here, why don't you design a logo or do something useful if you have nothing but complaints? I'm sure Ana would appreciate it, I didn't know it was Ana-g who initiated the project before noticing their Avatar in Github, when I saw it, it only reaffirmed my support of it as they are very credible; since they have been here for a long time helping many users.

As for elitism I couldn't give a flying hoo haa as long as it works, im not a github user, nor do I care whether someones experienced at it, everyone begins something at one point.

Friendly little inbred place. Glad I deleted my account and left before I got my feelings hurt.

Well Rahimichi-san to code one must first pluck their head up out of their butt. Then, well you know the rest, wax on piss off.

    Have a great day!
