Black background in my email

edited September 2007 in Stylish
Hi. I'm a new user for stylish and I have a problem. I just recently installed Stylish 0.5.2 looks cool in Firefox! Apparently Stylish seems to add the effect not just to Firefox, it's displayed inside my Yahoo! mail, making editing in my mail is an additional tasks. Is it a bug? because when I restarted my PC its seems to be working fine again, except when Stylish is turn back on. Any solutions? By the way, my Java is working fine.

  • you could disable the about:blank style you have enabled or if you add
    @namespace url(http://www.mozilla.org/keymaster/gatekeeper/there.is.only.xul);
    to the top of the style it'll only apply to firefox
  • I checked the code but everything is ok. I did as you told but the problem's still persist. How to disable the about: blank style?
  • That's weird! I just cut the about:blank and there's this error code comes out, change the setting, the stylish applies to ALL screen, paste it back and whalla, finally it apply back to normal in my mail. Bugs?
  • I gave up! If anyone has an idea, do place a message for me, and thanks for your help.
  • i'll try and help, but im not too sure what your problem is?
  • I think I know what might be happening. Now that GMail rehashed their service, I'm having the same problem. I have an app style in Stylish for about:blank. Now, when I reply to an e-mail, the text box containing my reply is styled with the about:blank style. I can't figure out a way around this without turning off the about:blank style, unless there's some way to tell Stylish to "use this style for about:blank, but not when about:blank is requested within gmail.com."
  • in the style change body to body:not(.tr-field)
    or post a link to it and i'll change it
  • That helped, but it didn't completely do the trick, at least not with the style I'm using. That's here:
    http://userstyles.org/styles/1441
    The fix removed the "This Page Intentionally Left Blank" background image, which should be the one referenced within the body attribute, but the background referenced in the * attribute (the gradient) is still there. I tried to replace the * with *:not(.tr-field), hoping it would work the same, but it didn't.

    At least the background text is gone; I can live with the gradient. Unless you know of a similar way to make an exception for * ?

    Thanks a lot, either way. :D

    changed the code around a bit and made the images smaller (no more gradient on gmail either)

  • Very excellent :D Thanks for taking a look at that and making it more friendly. Now, though, the style isn't showing up for about:blank, either. Was I supposed to change [style] and [class] to something, or should it work exactly as you have it? I didn't get any errors when I saved the file, so I don't think I missed anything when I c/p'ed.
  • it should work as i posted it (remember to disable the original style and reload the page or open a new one)
    i tried it on ff 1,2,3 and seamonkey 1.1.5
  • Aah I had to restart FF to see it on about:blank, I didn't think I'd have to since I didn't have to restart to see the change in Gmail. Thanks again for reworking that, it's great to see my e-mail replies unobscured now.
  • Hey Choggi I'm having the same problem with a script I made, the problem is in yahoo mail on the compose part & also on the google more drop down box maybe you can take a look & give me some advice for the code:)
    The code can be downloaded here (due to userstyles comment limit:))

    http://rapidshare.com/files/67641435/Meagan_Fox_About_Blank.zip
  • i changed it from html to body (most things that use about:blank change the attributes for body but not for html)
    grab it here i also changed the png to a jpg

    notice that base64.txt is about 130k bigger then original.png
    base64 encoding is good if you dont want whoever to download the image, but if it's just you using it then you might as well just link to the image from your hard drive
    stick aboutblank.jpg in program files\firefox\images and use the css as is
  • Posted By: ChoGGii changed it from html to body (most things that useabout:blankchange the attributes for body but not for html)
    Thanks Choggi much appreciated. I had originally just linked to the image directly from imageshack but it wouldn't work on my system, it only appeared with base64. I had originally planned on putting this in usercontent but since it kept popping up in the yahoo compose field, I needed an on off hence throwing it in stylish. I had tried linking to the image directly from my hard drive to but it wouldn't show up, probably because I wasn't sticking it in program files\firefox\images or I wasn't using res. Yea & I know about the size difference in base64 encode thats one of the draw backs it's always bigger. Anyways thanks for taking a look at it for me & providing a fix...the compose field is working now, the google drop down box is still popping it up but I hardly ever use it, so to me problem resolved lol.
    Thanks my friend:)

    if you use resource:/ in the url it starts in the root folder of your firefox program folder
    the url i used in your style is resource:/images/aboutblank.jpg so it looks for
    program files\firefox\images\aboutblank.jpg

    lets say the image is in C:\my pictures\picture.jpg for the url you would put file:///C:/my pictures/picture.jpg
    or just drag n drop the image in firefox to get the path

    i assume you already know, but if you put the code in usercontent/chrome you can just put picture.jpg for the url
    and to keep it neat put @import url(randomstyle.css); in usercontent/chrome

    heres the code i use for about:blank if you want to try it
    body:empty:not([style]):not([bgcolor]):not([class]):not([onresize"]){
    margin:0!important;height:100%!important;overflow:hidden!important;
    background:#AAA url(chrome://branding/content/about.png) center center no-repeat!important}

    if you tell me where to find this google thingy then i'll see what i can do
  • Yea I knew adding resource pointed it to root...but I was unclear on somethings...like adding file when pointing to another location. So thank you for your clear explanation, people are better teachers alot of the time Choggi...at least in my opinion:) Books & the net are great to but on alot of online forums you ask a simple question & it gets turned into a complex debate between 20 people lol & if you ever get your answer by that time it's never simple haha. Glad userstyles isn't like that :) I tried out your script...I had seen the similar one you posted here which I liked, would go great with a mac skin. The only thing I would change on the one posted would be the font & font size which is easy enough but thanks for sharing it's much appreciated. About the google thingy lol it can be found on google or google images where the links are located for web, images, video, yada yada yada, the last link is the more drop down box I'm talking about. The problem only occurs if you reopen it twice, but like I said don't use it much so if you can find an easy fix that's ok if you can't that's ok to & thanks for the info I appreciate it!
  • i thought it was that, but i didn't try twice
    the html/body are both the same as about:blank, this kinda works
    @namespace url(http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml); @-moz-document url("about:blank"){ body:not([id]){background:#060606 url("resource:/images/aboutblank.jpg") no-repeat center center fixed!important} } @-moz-document url-prefix("http://www.google.com/search"){ html>body:not([id])>#gbi:not([class]),html>body:not([id])>#gbi:not([class]) *:not([id]){background:red!important} }

    Well I tried it out but the problem still resides my friend...no biggie but thanks for trying I appreciate it. Speaking of that your good at code I'm new to this code but I am good at graphics my friend so if you ever need something just let me know & I would be glad to help you out. Been thinking about drawing up a layout for userstyles since I will probably be spending alot of time here btw are you familiar with Firefox skins mainly just the xulscrollbar.css within chrome global?
  • edited November 2007
    can't say i've made any skins before
    so whats the problem?
  • Posted By: ChoGGican't say i've made any skins before

    Well I'm on my way to the club soon (work) but would you mind if I just emailed you at your gmail account when I get a chance about what I'm trying to accomplish with the skin? Mainly it has to do with xulscrollbar.css though & not so much with the Firefox skin itself, I'm wanting to modify the scrollbars but within the skin .jar itself, but I can explain in more detail later as well as give you an example of what I'm going for with it my friend.
  • sure thats no problem
